ASH GROVE, Mo. — History will roar to life September 17–20 as the 64th Annual Steam-O-Rama welcomes one of the most extraordinary pieces of operating steam history in the world: the Case 150 HP Steam Traction Engine.
The massive Case 150 will make its first-ever appearance this far south in the United States at the Whinrey Homestead near Ash Grove, Missouri, giving visitors a rare opportunity to see, hear and experience the world’s largest operating traction engine in action.
The four-day event will also host the J.I. Case Heritage Foundation Expo, bringing together an impressive collection of Case steam engines, tractors, equipment and memorabilia.
“We’ve had some incredible equipment at Steam-O-Rama over the years, but the Case 150 is truly something special,” said Jeff Ruth, Director. “Most people will never have an opportunity to see a machine of this size and significance operating in person. To have it travel farther south than it ever has before and come to Southwest Missouri makes this year’s show one we believe people will remember for a long time.”
A Giant Reborn
The Case 150 traces its roots to the enormous “Case Road Locomotives” built by the J.I. Case Threshing Machine Company in the early 1900s. Only nine of the original machines were constructed between 1905 and 1907. Built for demanding freight work, the engines were designed to pull enormous loads to rail connections. None of the originals survived.
More than a century later, Kory Anderson of Andover, South Dakota, brought the machine back to life. After years of research and preparation, Anderson hand-built a fully operational recreation of the Case 150, preserving a remarkable chapter of American agricultural, industrial and steam-power history.
For Steam-O-Rama visitors, the opportunity to experience this enormous machine in person will be a first for Southwest Missouri.
Something for Kids of All Ages
Although the Case 150 will be one of the biggest attractions of the weekend, Steam-O-Rama offers plenty to see and do for the entire family.
Visitors can enjoy the barrel train, kiddie tractor pull, demonstrations and activities throughout the grounds. The action continues into the evening with theFriday night Classic Tractor Pull and Saturday night Antique Tractor Pull, giving visitors even more opportunities to see horsepower on display.
New for 2026, Steam-O-Rama will also feature a Bluegrass & Open Mic area, adding live music to the weekend’s activities. The show will welcome the Ozarks’ own bluegrass family, Lindley Creek, along with opportunities for other musicians to take the stage during open mic sessions. Whether visitors come for the machinery, the music or both, the new performance area will offer another place to relax, gather and enjoy the atmosphere of Steam-O-Rama.
The 2026 show will also feature the J.I. Case Heritage Foundation Expo, with Case tractors, equipment and memorabilia joining the many steam engines, gas engines, tractors and other historic machines on display.
From youngsters riding the barrel train to longtime collectors watching vintage machinery operate, Steam-O-Rama truly offers something for kids of all ages.
