STL brothers stand-up paddle board the Current
We have all heard of hiking, kayaking, and canoeing. But has anyone heard of stand-up paddle boarding here in Missouri?
Tom and Mark Malkowicz, brothers in the St. Louis area, recently took an an extraordinary adventure to stand-up paddle board the 104 miles of the Current River inside the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.
“We think it is the first time that anyone has attempted this on the Current River,” said Tom, who lives in Maplewood and is a video producer at Washington University.
Mark resides in St. Charles and is a paint technician at a body shop.
The Malkowicz brothers grew up doing all things outdoors, and in their childhood spent a lot of time on the Current River.
“We just recently over the past six months created a website to tell all the stories that we have,” said Tom.
“There is nothing in the world I like more than planning trips, going on trips, and then sharing them with everyone,” said Mark.
Tom and Mark are trying to introduce a new sport here in Missouri — stand-up paddle boarding.
“A couple years ago I went to Washington and spent 10 days climbing the mountain, and a friend and I went paddle boarding for like an hour. It’s a new sport that I haven’t seen here on the river,” said Mark.
