What’s in a name? Our beautiful creeks & streams.

Bob Brennecke

I am sure everyone who has driven over a little creek with a weird name, like Dead Mule Ditch or Turkey Tail Creek, has wondered where these names came from.

Obviously some names like Bryant Creek or Joachim Creek may have been part of a parcel of ground owned by that individual earlier, but some names are a bit a stretch.

Since these small tributaries are important to us today, they must have been vital to earlier settlers.

These small creeks and tributaries are so important to the health of our larger rivers and lakes we use daily. Most of the water in the larger cities in Missouri use the lakes and rivers to obtain their drinking water.

It is vitally important to keep these small waterways and runoffs pristine at all times because we are using more and more water all the time.
