Use Held’s Island Access to get on the Gasconade

The Gasconade River begins its 280-mile journey in the Missouri Ozarks near Hartville to where it unites with the Missouri River near the appropriately-named town of Gasconade.

Floaters, fishermen, stargazers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and walks of life enjoy it year-round.

While there are many ways to access this river, I have always enjoyed visiting Held’s Island Access. It may show up on Google Maps with an address of Hermann, but the truth is it’s much closer to the unincorporated town of Bay.

Bay had a post office established in 1860, but 103 years later it closed, thus ending the use of Bay on address labels. The area was absorbed by the Hermann postal code.

Some folks get confused when they look up the address for Held’s Island Access, because it is nearly 40 minutes away from Hermann.
