Hickory Creek flows nearly 2.5 miles through Morse Park in Neosho. Not only is it a beautiful attraction to our park, but it is classified as a white ribbon trout stream.
There are nine white ribbon trout streams in Missouri, and two of these are in Newton County. The other being Capps Creek on the east part of the county.
Other popular white ribbon trout areas include Roaring River, Upper Current River below Montauk State Park, and portions of the Eleven Point River. We are very fortunate to have this resource right here in our city park.
The Missouri Department of Conservation stocks trout in Hickory Creek several times a year. Fishing opportunities are catch and release from Nov. 1 to the end of February. From March 1 through Oct. 31 anglers can keep a total of four trout per day, just like in the trout parks.
