Ticks & the Alpha-Gal Syndrome

If you are outdoors as much as I am, you need to know about the Alpha-Gal Syndrome. This is a pathological condition now being spread by our dear friend, the lone star tick — that tick with the white star on its back.

The lone star tick is already responsible for spreading several other nasty diseases (such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Ehrlichiosis), but now it is the vector for a relatively new, complicated allergy relating to the ingestion of red meat and many dairy products.

The number of humans being exposed in the Midwest to this condition is increasing rapidly for the simple reason that our deer populations are increasing.
