For the past seven years Van and Pam Pierceall have been making custom crappie jigs and trolling tipits, and for the past four years they decided to make a business out of it.
Thumper Jigs, based out of Stoutsville, Mo., near Mark Twain Lake, started as a hobby that quickly blossomed into a business.
“When Van was sick and on dialysis he started tying jigs, and people wanted to buy them. Then, all of a sudden, it turned into a business,” said Pam.
“And over the past four years it has just really bloomed.”
Van is a retired iron worker and Pam is retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield. They run their business from the shop at their house.
“For retired people, this is a passion for us and we want to keep it that way,” said Pam. “We like to fish, too, you know, so we go to Florida a couple months out of the year to fish, so we aren’t always tying jigs.”
