‘Them ticks are worse than ever!’

I am quoting a friend in this headline. And yes, he is right. The ticks are really bad right now. Ticks love warm, moist weather and we have had plenty of it lately.

For me, it is so bad that every day, I usually bring home several “tick buddies” whose apparent mission is to “know” me on a much more personal level.

To make matters worse, these “tick buddies” are almost always lone star ticks, which are responsible for a variety of tick borne diseases, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever, ehrlichiosis, the heartland and bourbon viruses, and the alpha-gal syndrome.

And guess what — one tick can carry more than one pathogen.

So these are good reasons to take a closer look at the predatory habits of the lone star tick to see if there is a better way to avoid getting “hooked up” with these critters.
