The Traveler’s Bob Brennecke answers your outdoor questions:

• QUESTION: I have a question about hitching our trailer to our tow vehicle. I want to know how the locking mechanism works and why it is so difficult to connect to the hitch ball.

It takes me forever to connect the trailer to the tow vehicle by myself. Either the trailer socket will not go down over the ball or the locking lever will not latch all the way. What am I doing wrong and how do I make it easier?

• ANSWER: Well, that is certainly a great question and a problem I seem to have sometimes, also.

One of the first things I would do would be to lubricate the trailer socket and mechanism after cleaning them thoroughly with some degreaser spray.
