Interstate highways are a great way for people to get from one place to another in a hurry. They have high speed limits and no stop signs.
But you also miss seeing a lot of attractions that you would see if you took other roads and highways.
A lot of interstate highways have business loops through cities that you can take if you have the time. One of these is off of Interstate 44 at Pacific, Missouri.
Business Loop I-44 through Pacific is also old Highway 66 and it has a couple of city parks along this route that are worth stopping to see. Both of these are related to a Civil War battle.
Pacific was originally called Franklin, Missouri, as it was in Franklin County. Today it spans both St. Louis and Franklin counties. The name was changed to Pacific when the Missouri Pacific Railroad reached the city in 1852.
