Last week, I wrote a short introduction into hiking. Here we pick up the trail…
Most of the hikes my husband and I enjoy are 3-5 miles. We’ll pack a cooler, head out in the morning, and enjoy a well-deserved picnic lunch afterwards.

Or we’ll find a good local brew pub as an ending destination.
Recently we hiked about three-and-a-half miles at the High Ground Bike Preserve* (Rough Rider Loop and Homestead Trail) inside of Morse Park in Neosho.
Our finish line destination was Indian Spring Brewing Co. downtown on Main Street, well worth the effort.
Once a year we plan a weekend trip of hiking. On these trips we usually cover upwards of 25 miles over the course of three days. Purposely, one of those hikes will be a “challenge” hike.
We use an app called AllTrails and highly recommend it. It is a paid subscription but well worth it for the features it offers.
