Last week I found something hanging over a trail on our farm; it was about eight feet in the air and attached to a tree limb.
A photo is enclosed with this column.
Folks, this is not a fun-filled Mexican pinata, full of candy and waiting to be smacked with a baseball bat.
Instead, it is a hornet’s nest. Smacking this with a baseball bat could put you in the hospital or perhaps the cemetery.
“Stirring up the hornet’s nest” now generally refers to doing something provocative to other humans, but with this photo, you are looking at the origin of that expression.
In this instance, “stirring up the hornet’s nest” would not be a good idea.
