Spring in the Missouri Ozarks means hillsides dotted with flowering trees.

One of my favorites is the dogwood. Like many Missourians, I have a deep appreciation for this flowering tree.

Clearly it is valued by folks because it is the official state tree. People in other states appreciate this showy beauty, too.

Both Virginia and North Carolina have designated the dogwood as their state flower.

Perhaps it was my formative years spent in Big Piney, Missouri, that helped instill my appreciation for the dogwood.
