Speed limit will increase to 75 mph on rural interstates starting Aug. 28

By Castle Spieker

On July 13, Gov. Mike Kehoe signed Senate Bill 1408 to increase the speed limit from 70 mph to 75 mph on rural sections of interstates throughout the state, effective Aug. 28.

This change will include Interstate 44 and Interstate 49, and will apply only to portions of the interstate not in urban areas.

The bill also includes a local government control clause, where cities, towns, and villages can set speed limits on state roads within their jurisdiction, with approval from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.
