Ozarks vernacular book worth the read

Have you ever heard of a fuddle britches? Me either, until I ran across a book co-authored by Ozark folklorist Vance Randolph titled “Down in the Holler: A Gallery of Ozark Folk Speech.”

Wes Franklin

First published in 1953, it’s a gold mine of Ozark vernacular that has largely died out by today.

The material was gathered in the first half of the 20th century. Fuddle-britches, by the way, is another word for smart aleck.
