Eight years ago on May 22, 2011, a major event in Missouri history happened in the town of Joplin.
In the evening before 6 p.m., an EF-5 tornado struck right through the town of Joplin. It was an estimated 1 mile wide and went about 13 miles in length.
The winds recorded were well over 200 mph. Over 7,500 homes were destroyed, not including businesses, or schools. Over 9,200 people were without homes.
