Onions have powers (but only in the Ozarks)

Know what I like? Onions. Watching my wife chop up that odorous vegetable brought to mind a few Ozarks superstitions and folk remedies and such that I once read in a Vance Randolph book.

So, I looked them up again just to get it right before I shared them with you fine folks.

First off, you can tell what kind of winter it’s going to be by how thick or thin onion skins are in late summer when you harvest.

The thinner the skin the milder the winter. The old rhyme goes like this: “Onion skin mighty thin, easy winter coming in.” Easy to remember, right?
