New park welcomes Route 66 tourists into Missouri

A new park along the Mississippi River opened on Sunday, April 14.

But Chain of Rocks Park is not just an ordinary park. It is the entrance of the historic Route 66 into Missouri by way of the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge.

Chain of Rocks Park was made possible by a grant of $990,000 from the National Park Service through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program.

The park took over a year to complete with the cooperation of the St. Louis City Parks Department, St. Louis County, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the Missouri State Parks Department, the Great Rivers Greenway, and Trailnet.
