As far as towns go, St. Robert is a fairly new one. Thanks to the construction of Ft. Leonard Wood the population swelled in the area, which created a problem for those who practiced the Catholic faith.

For several years a priest would hold mass in a theatre in nearby Waynesville for those who couldn’t make the commute to the nearest Catholic church in Dixon.
Due to the growing Catholic population in the area north of the newly-formed Ft. Leonard Wood, St. Robert Catholic Church was established in 1951.
It’s no surprise that it was during that same year the village of St. Robert was also established. By 1954 the villagers voted to officially become a city.
