I have dozens of Illinois friends who venture across the Mighty Mississippi to deer hunt in Missouri each year. You guys will love this one.
In 1970 I killed my first deer in Washington County, Missouri. For that hunt I was shooting my dad’s .30-30 Winchester Model 94 with iron sights.
That was a pretty special old rifle because Dad had killed his first deer with it years earlier. That very special gun was lost in a home break-in.
So, I moved up to a .308 and Dad, Glen Roux, won a .30-06 my senior year of high school at the Homecoming Football Game Booster Club Raffle.
That’s right, they raffled off a high-powered rifle at a high school football game. Ah, the good old days.
