Hunting with physical limitations

By Chuck Smick

Trapping with disabilities can be challenging and frustrating.

There are several things that you will need to do, to plan your trapping excursion or trapping trips.

You must start with YOUR SAFETY first. Following proper safety procedures will allow you to enjoy your trapping season without injuries.

I had planned to “semi-retire” last fall and enjoy some fall fishing with my wife, deer hunt and trap. But a diagnosis of cancer and a bad hip that needed replacing put those plans on hold.

I completed two surgeries for cancer and followed up with several weeks of cancer treatment.

The hip replacement was completed in December 2024, then a knee replacement… as my ability to move around greatly diminished.
