The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) recently teamed up with National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) on a project to clear 137 acres of overgrown grassland at the Fort Crowder Conservation Area in Neosho, Mo., and sprayed for invasive Japanese honeysuckle, tree of heaven, callery pear, and sericea lespedeza.
“The main focus was improving brood rearing habitat for turkey,” said Francis Skalicky, with MDC’s southwest office.
“We also applied a prescribed burn on 92 acres of woodland, a prescribed burn on 19 acres of grassland and a prescribed burn on 30 acres of old field. That was the largest project at Crowder this year.”
