Here is a related story about the new use of the 120-year-old former Chicago & Rock Island Railroad bridge in Kansas City.

The Rock Island Bridge over the Kansas River officially opened to the public on Wednesday, April 6, 2026, transforming the former railroad river crossing into an entertainment destination.

The developers say that this project is the world’s first entertainment district on a bridge 60 feet above a river featuring dining, drinks, events, and a public gathering space.
