“I can’t believe we are in Illinois,” is one of the most common sentiments expressed by visitors as they stand on the shoreline of Lake Lou Yaeger.
The serene environment engulfs your senses and transports your mind to a place only thought to be available from destinations far from the Midwest.
However, this hidden Central Illinois gem is far more real than imaginary. Located a mere five miles from the Litchfield, Ill., exit on Interstate 55, Lake Lou Yaeger Recreational Area can be found 60 miles north of St. Louis and 40 miles south of Springfield, Ill.
This 1,400-acre lake with surrounding 4,500 acres of woodlands is a haven for the outdoor lover. Lake Lou Yaeger Recreational Area offers hiking, biking, boating, fishing, camping, equestrian services, and a public beach complete with kayak, corcl, and stand up paddle board rental.
