Joyce is a single parent, and she has a problem. Divorced for 12 years, she had moved to Missouri in July from California with her 17-year-old son, Sam, and he wanted to go deer hunting.
All the boys and some of the girls at school were telling him that deer hunting was a tradition in this part of the world.
His friends were planning to go with their families. and he wanted to go too.
Joyce told him she had an uncle in the area, and she would call him to see if he could go hunting with him.
The uncle told her that he was old and no longer hunted, but Sam was welcome to hunt his land. He even had rifles and ammunition they could use.
