Cranor’s White River paradise

At my age, the bucket list is getting shorter and shorter. A few weeks ago, I shortened it even more.

I made my first trip to the White River in Arkansas. Brown and rainbow trout were the targets.

I grew up fishing for trout in Missouri’s state parks and loved it. My dad and I spent hundreds of days catching both browns and rainbows in those crystal-clear waters.

Later in life I made dozens of trips to Lake Michigan catching browns, steelhead, and lake trout. Bob Jenkins could put us on trout no matter the conditions, and they were huge.

But tales of floating the White River continued to haunt me. I have seen so many photos of great trout from this river and watched so many outdoor TV shows that taunted me to go there.

I remember seeing Bill Dance floating the White River hammering trout.

Donald Cranor can put you on trophy trout on the White River of Arkansas.
