Contractor selected for Crane Lake Dam repair

ROLLA — Mark Twain National Forest has selected SD Resources, Inc., from Evansville, Ill., as the contractor to complete repairs to the dam at Crane Lake in Iron County.

Located south of Ironton in a beautiful part of Mark Twain National Forest, Crane Lake serves as one of the few public fishing lakes in the area.

It also provides access for canoers and kayakers, and it serves as a location from which visitors can connect to a vast network of trails, including the Ozark Trail.

“Now that the design has been selected and contractor has been chosen, the work on the ground will start soon,” said Forest Supervisor Vinci Keeler.

Repair of the dam is scheduled to start sometime this fall and is expected to take approximately one year to complete.

After the $3.5 million repair contract is completed, the lake will be taken out of safety drawdown and will be allowed to fill back up naturally to its full capacity once more.
