Celebrate spring with a hike

Spring sure is putting on a show in Missouri, which is the perfect cure for my cabin fever.

To celebrate spring, I recently convinced my Aunt Donna to join my daughter and I for an outdoor adventure.

When studying my map to find a location exactly in between Donna and I’s respective hometowns (Union and Farmington), I came across Strawberry Creek Nature Area in Arnold.

This nature area is located on 188 acres approximately half a mile past the intersection of Tenbrook Road and Highway 231, which most locals refer to as Telegraph Road.

Strawberry Creek Nature Area includes a pond and four walking trails that intersect at various points. I have to be honest, between the criss-crossing trails and the natural deer trails, we did get a little turned around at times.

We thought we were on Strawberry Creek trail most of the time, but actually ended up concluding our hike on Owl Bend trail. However, those small moments of confusion were a huge part of the fun!

Strawberry Creek winds throughout the nature area. While we didn’t find any footbridges to cross the creek, we were able to navigate the water crossings without getting soaked.

A few conveniently-located benches along the trails gave us the chance to catch our breath, enjoy the scenery, and each other’s company.

Visitors should note there is no electricity or running water at this site, but there is a porta potty at the entrance and a pavilion with picnic tables.

It was at that very pavilion where we decided to continue the adventure by looking for another park to visit. Bee Tree Park popped up on my phone as an option.

The map placed us only 5 miles away from the park, so it seemed like a great idea to head in that direction.

We headed northeast on Telegraph Road out of the Arnold area into south St. Louis County. It wasn’t long until we reached Bee Tree Park. We were instantly impressed by the historic mansion that greeted us upon our arrival.
