Canoeing the finest float stream in Missouri, plus great coffee

Tucked way down south in the bottom of the state is a jewel among jewels — the Current River.

Specifically, the stretch of river between Van Buren and Doniphan.

If you were to calculate the amount of water that emerges from all the springs that dump into this section of the river, one would need a calculator.

Deep, clear and swift, it is a canoer’s paradise.

It has always been my opinion that winter is the absolute best time to experience our Ozark streams for a few reasons.

In the winter there are no bugs, biting flies, snakes and mostly there are no people. It has always perplexed me as to why those that love to canoe do not take advantage of the winter months.
