‘Book banning’ is a ruse! Support the work of elected officials

To the Editor,

On May 26 I came across a copy of the May issue of River Hills Traveler (my first) and saw a Reader Mailbag letter by James Tager expressing what he called a “book banning mandate” for libraries by the Missouri legislature (Senate Bill 775).

Tager’s use of the “book banning” label to position citizen efforts as well as those by elected officials to keep libraries free of sexually explicit material is a strategic tactic by those who want just about anything in libraries.

Then they add that taking books out of libraries violates First Amendment rights.

It’s all a ruse.

We all can probably agree that “explicit sexual material” is often viewed in a subjective manner, whether in language, visual presentation, or actions.
