Nestled in the rolling Ozark hills of Ava, Mo., Beaver Creek Campground, Cabins & Canoe Rental has built Rustlers Ridge Camp Area accommodating up to 20 people overlooking the creek.
It’s perfect for smaller scout, church, nature, or family groups.
It features a large bunkhouse cabin – an open bay with six bunk beds, two full restrooms, washer/dryer, A/C and heat, as well as a large 12×40 covered porch with outdoor kitchen (sink, grill, large cooler) and dining area with four picnic tables.
A large cowboy fire pit/grill with benches is in the area next to the bunkhouse and sheepherder wagons (bed linens provided).
There’s also a separate covered pavilion with 2 more picnic tables. This entire area is rented as one — bunkhouse (12 people), two sheepherder wagons (four people), and room for setting up a couple of tents four people); for a max total of 20 people.
The entire area is on a bluff overlooking the creek, and an old barn used to stand in this area.
Owners Barry and Jan Dougherty thought of many ideas to expand the campground once the old barn fell from age.
Their son, John, had the idea of sheepherder wagons on the property. They really like the idea of the wagons because of their history in the late 1800s and importance in settling of the wild, wild west. In fact, pop-up campers were designed after sheepherder wagons.

The theme of Rustlers Ridge fits in with the cattle and ranchland in the surrounding properties.
The Doughertys have been expanding and improving the property since the day they purchased it almost seven years ago.
