Add this Civil War battle site to your summer travel plans

One of the most obscure and least-known areas in Missouri is the site of the Civil War Battle of Belmont.

Fought on Nov. 7, 1861, it could have had a major impact on the outcome of the Civil War.  

Newly-appointed General Ulysses S. Grant, in one of his first battles, was surrounded, trapped and almost captured or killed.
