A lesson on spinners

As long as there have been artificial lures used to catch fish, anglers have been developing ways to make their baits look more attractive to the fish.

One of the foremost ways to imitate live shad or fingerlings is with something flashy, like spinners.

The large spinners like willow leaf, Colorado and many others are primarily used on bass baits.

Today, I want to take a quick look at spinners on smaller baits. These smaller lures are used predominately for panfish.

Small jigs are the first choice for artificial lures for big bluegill. It has been my experience that about half of seasoned pan fishermen use jigs with spinners and half do not. All appear equally successful.
