With turkey season approaching, the anticipation among us hunters seems to build just like the hours in the spring days.
One of the topics that I hear every year while hunters start preparing is what turkey load they will be shooting this year.
The last couple of years the technology of shotgun loads has made some dramatic developments to help hunters bag the gobbler with better patterns, longer distance, and better knock down power.
For this month’s issue of River Hills Traveler, I decided to put three of the most talked about shotgun turkey loads to the test to see for myself which one is really the best.
The three different types of turkey loads that I tested was the highly talked about Winchester Longbeard XR, Hornady’s Heavy Magnum Turkey, and the unique Magnum Blend from Hevi Shot. All three of these loads have been in many turkey hunter conversations the last of couple years.
As for myself, I have heard pros and cons to each. So, again I wanted to know for myself. Here is what I learned.
