JEFFERSON CITY, MO., MARCH 20, 2009 — Two living history events that focus on the Civil War will be held March 28 and April 18 at Fort Davidson State Historic Site in Pilot Knob. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the 2nd Missouri Artillery and the Turner Brigade, the events will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The 2nd Missouri Artillery, a Confederate Civil War re-enacting group made up of artillery, civilian and occasionally cavalry re-enactors, will be featured on March 28. On April 18, the event will feature the Turner Brigade, a Union Civil War re-enacting group made up of infantry,
artillery, cavalry and civilian groups. Both events will get underway with a muster (assemble for roll call) and spring drill. There will be ongoing small arms and artillery drills throughout the day. The re-enactors will be in Civil War costume throughout the day and portray life in military
and refugee camps at the time. Spring was traditionally the time during the war when units would reorganize after a long winter. Soldiers would train and drill, much as you will observe at this living history event, readying themselves for the summer and fall battle campaign season.

Although smaller than a re-enactment, the events will give the public a sampling of what to expect during next year’s re-enactment as these units drill. There will not be any battle re-enactments for the spring events. The 146th anniversary of the Battle of Pilot Knob re-enactment is scheduled for Sept. 25-26, 2010, at the historic site.
For more information, contact Fort Davidson State Historic Site at 573-546-3454 or the Department of Natural Resources toll free at 800-334-6946 (voice) or 800-379-2419 (Telecommunications Device for the
Deaf).
