This story comes about because of many years camping out in the woods with the Boy Scouts with whom I was affiliated most of my life.

These happenings could only have been observed by being in the right place at the right time, and I have only found out recently what these lights were.

When I was a new Boy Scout with Troop 430 in Arnold around the mid-1950’s, we went camping in a Boy Scout Camp named Lion’s Den in Jefferson County off Lion’s Den Road.

It was cold that night and I remember sitting in front of a hot campfire in the fall listening to the older scouts and the adults talking about walking in the dark woods and not knowing what was two steps in front of you.

The next thing I heard was, “Hey, kid, go get some wood for the fire,” and everyone turning to look at me. My answer to them was, “Where is it?”

“Just go out there in the woods (pointing into the darkness) and find some,” they told me.
