This year’s motor tour, “Down by the Riverside,” will be in the traditional point-to-point format on Sept. 8-10. A registration fee of $25 dollars per car applies.

Registration and a roadie gathering will be on Friday, Sept. 8, between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the tour’s host, the Best Western Plus Coach House Inn at 2535 N. Glenstone Ave. in Springfield.

After gathering for a brief driver meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, participants will journey eastward on their own. They will tour the Bennett Spring Fish Hatchery at 1 p.m. This tour is free and no reservation is required.

The Days Inn & Suites at 97 Ozark Drive, in Cuba, is the host motel on Saturday night. The Wagon Wheel Motel on Historic Route 66 at 901 E. Washington Blvd., Cuba, is a unique lodging option. Call (573) 885-3411 to learn more about this vintage boutique motel with lovingly restored rooms.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night, Dottie’s Family Restaurant will host the group’s festivities. Their regular buffet meal with dessert is $10.99 per person, subject to change and paid at the door.

You may arrive at Dottie’s and dine whenever you like. Discuss the day with other roadies, look at the Route 66 murals, listen to a presentation on Route 66, and place bids in the silent auction.

On Sunday, the tour will leave around 9 a.m. and continue their journey eastward (no drivers meeting). The motor tour will end at the Dogwood Shelter inside Route 66 State Park with a BBQ lunch by Super Smokers.

After a noon lunch, a walk “Down by the Riverside” to the Meramec River will be offered, weather permitting. Cost of lunch, including drink and dessert, is $15 per person paid in advance.

Proceeds from the motor tour’s silent auction go directly to the Preservation Fund.  To donate Route 66-themed items, please bring them to an Association meeting or to the registration desk.
