The 11th Annual Cops for Kids Open Buddy Bass Tournament is set for Tuesday, May 5, at the State Park Marina in Branson, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“In the past we haven’t made it open to the public, but this year we are,” said Ron Kelley, the founder/executive director of Cops for Kids.

This event is a fundraiser for two non-profit organizations, Catch a Dream Foundation and Children Smiles.

“It’s important to take care of your community and take care of the children,” said Kelley.

Catch a Dream Foundation gives children 18 years old or younger a once-in-a-lifetime hunting and fishing experience to children who have a life-threatening illness.

“This allows them to take a break and be a kid again,” said Kelley.

In the timespan of 10 years the bass tournament has raised $80,000 for the children through businesses sponsoring the event, monetary donations, door prizes, and selling raffle tickets for drawings.

“We get lots of money and door prize contributions and this year we will be having a silent auction,” said Kelley.

Last year they had 157 boats participating and this year they are hoping for 200 boats, which would equal about 400 people.

“I want everyone to come out and have a great day full of fishing and prizes,” said Kelley.
