In the August 2008 issue of
River Hills Traveler
Its hard to keep your thinking straight in this business at this time of year. A third of the summer remains, but the August issue must look toward fall, as September will be too late for some things. Not that were neglecting the floating and fishing aspects of Traveler Country. Bill Cooper (when does he find time for his day job?) also writes up his trip down the Meramec with stepson Benton Stevenson. Bob and Pat Todd have retired from running Traveler but not from drifting down Ozark streams. Bob reports on floats with his grandkids on the Jacks Fork and Black rivers. Jo Schaper not only works part-time for Traveler and part-time for a print shop, she has her own graphics and web design business and does an impressive amount of freelance writing, photography and geologic exploration. Youll enjoy her before and after photos of the Johnson Shut-Ins State Park restoration and her story and photos on Devils Well in Shannon County. St. Louis journalist Don Corrigan sent us a review copy of his book, Show Me...Natural Wonders, which is worth a read. A review appears in the August Traveler and may be also read on the News & Views section of this web site. I enjoyed having coffee last month with Bob Lewis, a Traveler contributor from Farmington. Bob is a fellow Missouri J-school grad, but he spent most of his career in the retail and banking businesses in Farmington. In retirement hes able to pursue his passions for writing and birding. And theres more. Dig in and enjoy The August issue also includes travel maps for the Upper and Lower Current, Jacks Fork and Meramec and Black Rivers, Clearwater and Wappapello Lakes and the Parkland and Traveler regions.
